Karen Goddard Fine Art

About the Artist

Australian Artist living on the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. Having spent many years in a corporate investment career, she decided to focus on her young family, and attend Art school during this time. Studying at Art school in Cape Town South Africa, honing her skills across all mediums and genres, she was commissioned to produce a body of work for a new Restaurant in Cape Town. Followed by numerous group exhibitions and her first solo show in 2003.

Karen is a diverse Artist who enjoys the challenge of constantly expanding her range of compositions. The need to remain authentic in her craft leads her to defy what is expected of her and embrace this diversity.

Having lived across 3 continents Karen draws on her personal experiences throughout her time in Australia, South Africa and the UK. Living through times of change and transformation have had an influence on her work. Having mastered portraiture, still life and landscape compositions, Karen’s focus has moved to detailed mark making, using her impressionist techniques to create layers of abstraction, then covering the composition with innate shapes guided by the brushes used to apply the mark making, and featuring aspects from the native flowers and fauna from her still life series, inspired by the colour and form, and their unique structure. There is an emotional connection that relates to her past and present, this connection has a symbolism for the artist. Karen seeks to engage with the composition in an emotive way creating a visual dance between the brush strokes and the structure of the fauna and flora. Taking the composition to a totally different level, resulting in a series of meditative works.

For me colour invokes an emotional response, there is a symbolic strength and passion attached to applying colour to canvas. Using techniques taught and learned I am fearless in the use of color creating a dialogue of resilience and tenacity and ultimately resolving this narrative in the finished work.
